(2012/07/17) National Chung Cheng University (CCU) has become the first school in Taiwan to cooperate with U.S. automobile giant General Motors (GM), university officials said July 17.
The university's Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-Tech Innovations submitted a cooperation proposal to the company March 23 this year and a GM representative visited the school to discuss the plan with institute researcher Yu-ting LIN on July 3.
The cooperation deal will allow students from the university to conduct research at GM for between six months and one year in fields related to the development of automated robots, human-machine interface, virtual and green manufacturing, the university said.
However, further discussions are still underway to confirm the specific fields in which the university and GM will collaborate.
According to the university, the company has cooperated with renowned American academic institutions such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford and Michigan State University, as well as government institutes including NASA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
It also has partnerships with Germany's RWTH Aachen University and with Jiao Tong University in Shanghai, the university added.
